CJ’s Events Warwickshire Cancels Weekend Markets Due to Safety Concerns
CJ's Events Warwickshire regrets to announce the cancellation of all markets scheduled for this weekend due to safety concerns arising from Storm Bert.
Warwick Food Festival has been rescheduled for later in 2021
Organisers of the annual event, which attracts over 15,000 visitors to the town, have rescheduled the event over safety concerns for the event, which was due to take place in May this year.
The 2020 Food Festival was cancelled due to the Pandemic, and the 2021 Food Festival was scheduled to take place in St Nicholas Park to adhere to Social Distancing Measures. However, today, the organisers have decided against this plan.
Jamie Walker of CJ's Events Warwickshire said: 'Safety is always our priority, whilst events have permission to take place from 17th May, they will be under strict safety measures, including the capacity of 4,000 at any one time.
'Whilst the majority of the safety measures can be followed, concerns have been raised on how the 4,000 visitors will be managed at a free event. We are also concerned with this being one of the first significant events within the District, and it may be riskier holding this and attracting an unmanageable amount of people.
'Our team have done a fantastic job of delivering COVID Secure Markets over the Pandemic. We've been used as a Government Case Study, in addition to being awarded a COVID-19 Resilience Award, and we're in no position to compromise the work we've done in partnership with Warwick District Council.
'By rescheduling the event, this will allow the capacity requirements to be dropped, and we can hold a safe and much more manageable festival in the original location of Warwick Town Centre.
'We have liaised with Warwick District Council, and they are happy and supportive of our decision.
CJ's Events Warwickshire have confirmed the Food Festival will now take place on Sunday 1st August in Warwick Town Centre.
