Saturday 21st & Sunday 22nd December - Markets Cancelled
We are deeply heartbroken to announce that all our markets scheduled for this weekend have been cancelled due to the forecast of strong, gusty winds throughout Saturday and Sunday.
We regret to inform you that, due to forecasted wind gusts of up to 44 MPH on Sunday, 20th October, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the market.
According to the Met Office, wind speeds are expected to start at 30 MPH from 03:00, increasing to 44 MPH by 10:00, and remaining at this level until 13:00. Even by 16:00, wind speeds are projected to decrease only slightly to 31 MPH.
This decision was not made lightly, as we fully understand the disruption it causes to our traders and the community. However, wind speeds of this magnitude present significant safety risks. Market stalls would not be able to withstand these conditions, posing potential hazards to traders, their goods, and the general public.
A couple of years ago, we attempted to operate a market in slightly lower wind conditions, but we were forced to close much earlier than planned. The Parade tends to act as a wind tunnel, significantly increasing the risk in these situations.
Safety is always our highest priority, and we cannot put anyone at risk. We appreciate your understanding and support in this matter.
The market will be back on Sunday 27th October 2024
